Public spending explorer for Italy: shows where municipal money goes, with source data and MCP access.
DoveVannoINostriSoldi is a civic open-source project that unifies official Italian public spending data scattered across different portals. It shows payments made by municipalities month by month, aggregates by region, and breaks down spending categories (current expenses, investments, loans). Each number cites its source, period, and limitations.
The site is built with Next.js, uses Supabase for data, and includes an MCP server that lets agents query spending figures and source metadata. The project emphasizes transparency: an unusual figure does not prove waste or illegality; it indicates where to look closer.
The repo includes scripts for data collection and analysis, and the live site updates monthly as new SIOPE files are published. It is a working example of open-data visualization for public accountability.
